JUNE 25, 2013 – CLEVELAND – After announcing the news of signing So Long Albatross in April, Cellar Door Records is very excited and proud to announce the signing of Cleveland band, The Commonwealth. In this exclusive deal, the label will release the band’s upcoming album, handle their promotion, and co-owner Justin Markert will serve as the band’s manager/booking agent.
The Commonwealth, featuring vocalist/guitarist Andrew Kuhar, guitarist Patrick Burke, and drummer Nick Kuhar, got the attention of Cellar Door after the release of their first full length,Emerald City Blues. The band made an even bigger impression after seeing their dynamic live show at a Cellar Door show.
Since then, The Commonwealth and Cellar Door have worked on a handful of shows together including Cellar Door Rendezvous in March, opening for Welshly Arms at the Beachland Ballroom earlier this month, and closing out the Pabst stage presented by Cellar Door at this year’s Waterloo Arts Fest.
“The Commonwealth has a great sound that fills a void in the Cleveland music community.” said Cellar Door co-owner Justin Markert describing the bands blues-rock-indie style. “We stopped and looked around and wondered- Where has the guitar rock gone? There are plenty of punk, metal, and “modern rock” bands. And there’s an incredible and vibrant indie-folk/indie-pop scene here. But when looking for a big guitar rock sound, it wasn’t exactly clear, then we saw The Commonwealth live.”
Cellar Door Records will release The Commonwealth’s next album Urban Soul on July 26th at The Happy Dog.
